José Miguel’s industry area of expertise is in business. For over five years, he has worked with students in career paths including management, accounting, finance, public relations, human resources, and marketing.

  • College of Business Liaison:

    José Miguel works closely with the staff and professors of the College of Business to assess students’ career development needs and prepare them for success after Stony Brook. He assists students in exploring their major’s functions and aligning them with their career interests, in addition to identifying relevant jobs and learning which skills, personality characteristics, and values are required for work in the field.

  • Social Media:

    José Miguel is a social media analyst and strategist with three years of experience in understanding, tracking, and measuring social interaction among students, recent graduates, and employers. He has developed workshops teaching strategies for creating a social media job search, developing a LinkedIn profile, tweeting your way into your next job, and many others. He manages the Career Center’s social media platforms to bring students the latest job, internship, and volunteer opportunities, while also keeping them informed about our programs.

Personal/Professional Background:

José Miguel is a Queens native who has spent the past ten years in Syracuse, New York, working as the Employer Relations Specialist at SUNY Oswego. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Spanish and Literature from SUNY Oneonta, where he also taught Spanish as well as a survey course in career fields for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. This was where he discovered his passion for higher education and career services. He also has his associate’s degree in occupational science of business administration from the Utica School of Commerce. José Miguel has recently completed his Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration here at Stony Brook, and hopes to continue on to a Ph.D. in the future.

When not working or studying, he enjoys spending quality time with his significant other, family and friends. He likes traveling, cooking, and reading. José Miguel has his own business as a Pampered Chef consultant, and also hopes to complete his license to be a financial advisor and analyst in the near future.
